1. The best thing I did all week was be social. It sounds so simple, but my life has felt turned upside down for weeks and making time with my friends has made me feel more like myself again.

2. Books that instantly hook me make me super happy. (I know I've said this before...)

3. Pets are a wonderful comfort, but a real responsibility.

4. My family is the best thing about my life.

5. With the cooler weather I am looking forward to curling up in blankets, cozy sweaters, the way the air smells, turning leaves, making giant pots of soup, boots and the perfect excuse to stay in and read in the evenings.

6. Something that's on my "wish list" right now is an all expenses paid trip to Melbourne, Australia.

7. This weekend I am going to play honorary family member for my roommate and her sister, wander around old town, catch up on some tv, start a new book and finish unpacking the last of my boxes.

Why yes, I do read even when I travel...

...but to be perfectly honest, I actually thought I would read more than I did while on my trip. I'm usually a horrible sleeper on airplanes and I tend to read for a few hours straight when I'm flying. But, the usual rules didn't seem to apply to my international travel. I read a little on my flight from Denver to LAX; slept basically the entire flight to Sydney; read a fair bit up to Townsville and back to Sydney again; and read a bit here and there while I was in Sydney and Townsville. All of that amounted to an entire book and two-thirds of another. That is usually what I read on a weekend trip to Boston...I take this as a sign of the amazing amounts of fun I was having; clearly too much to give in to my book nerd ways.

What I read in February

The first snowfall

We are finally (finally!!) getting our first real snowfall of the season here in Northern Colorado, and I am just tickled to death about it. I will admit that I'm not tickled about the driving-on-slick-roads piece, but I can handle it. I was truly afraid that Colorado had forgotten that it's Winter and we weren't going to get any fluffy, white powder. Thank goodness I was wrong! Now, I've loved the mild temperatures and the sunshine and blue skies we've been experiencing, but I'm an all four seasons kind of gal, so I've been in need of a little Winter. I love how soft the snow looks as it falls, and I can already tell that I'll be spending the majority of my day staring out my winter at the drifting flakes. The only thing that would make this snowfall better is if I wasn't at work, but was instead reading at home, cozied up in my pjs with several pots of tea!

The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment then where is it to be found?
